Sativa, Hybrid and Indica are terms used to describe different types of cannabis plants, each with unique effects and characteristics! Each type is influenced by a combination of factors, with the active cannabinoids being a major factor.
INDICA
Indica is typically associated with relaxing and calming effects. Indica strains are known for their sedative qualities, making them ideal for nighttime use or when you want to unwind and destress. They are known to help with pain relief, insomnia, anxiety and muscle relaxation.
Why do some people feel energized using Indicas?
Everyone’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) is different, which means that people may react differently to the same strain. While Indicas are generally used for relaxing most people, some may find a more stimulating and uplifting response due to their unique body chemistry. Tolerance also plays a large role in the effect of cannabis on an individual. Someone with high tolerance to THC might not feel as sedated by an indica as someone with a lower tolerance.
Indica strains are often associated with higher CBD levels than sativa strains (although not always the case). CBD is one of the compounds that contributes to the relaxing effects. Some individuals have a higher sensitivity to CBD which can produce a paradoxical effect in which the user feels stimulated and energetic.
Finally, low dosages of indica strains may have more stimulating or clear-headed effects, while higher doses are more likely to result in the classic sedative and relaxing effects. This is why some users choose to smoke a smaller amount of indica to give them a boost of energy.
SATIVA
Sativa strains are known to uplift people and can provide a cerebral or “head-high”, which can enhance creativity and focus. Sativa is typically used during the day or during activities! Many people will use them to feel energized throughout the day!
Why do some people feel anxious using Sativas?
Sativa strains typically present higher levels of pure THC; unlike indica which has higher percentages of blends. THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis which can sometimes produce paranoia, nervousness, or anxiety in certain individuals due to individual ECS’s (explained above). Sativas are known for their cerebral effects and mind-highs which can be overwhelming for some individuals or simply not mix with the user’s body chemistry.
HYBRID
Hybrid strains are a mix of both indica and sativa strains. The effects can vary depending on the ratio of indica to sativa but they attempt to offer a balance of the relaxation benefits of indica and the uplifting effects of sativa. Hybrids are known to help with pain relief or mood enhancement.
Indica-Dominant Hybrids:
These hybrids lean more towards the relaxing and soothing effects of indica. They tend to produce more pronounced body effects. Many users report using indica-dominant hybrids for muscle relaxation, pain relief, and sedation. If you are looking for a balance of relaxation and some mental clarity, then an indica-dominant hybrid is a great choice for you!
Sativa-Dominant Hybrids:
These hybrids offer uplifting and energizing effects as well as some body-high effects from the indica side; these body-highs are much less pronounced than that of an indica-dominant hybrid. Sativa-dominant hybrids are good for users to want euphoria or mental stimulation along with a bit of physical relaxation.
Balanced (50/50) Hybrids:
Balanced hybrids combine equal parts of sativa and indica, aiming to deliver both mental and physical effects; it all depends on which strain. Some strains will offer mild relaxation and elevation of the user’s mood, whereas others moderate body effects and are ideal for social interaction, pain management, or stress relief without feeling overly sedated!
